Within Reboot Recovery, there are 5 damage categories to determine faulty hard drives:
Logical Damage
The most common issues with hard drives are occurrences where it actually works but data inaccessible. Symptoms include when the file table has been corrupted, drive being formatted accidentally or when prompted to perform a system recovery. At this point, users are advised to immediately halt any further actions and seek guidance from the professionals. If handled incompetently, there is a far greater chance that the data within the drive will be lost irrecoverably
Media Issues
When a drive has bad sectors which confines users to access only partial data or none at all, the computer will be frozen in an attempt to read the drive. Each sector image from the drive must be placed on to the good drive and customized software will be used to extract data from that image. We have acquired professional tools and software in resolving this type of problems.
Electronic Damage
This occurs when the circuit board inside the drive has been damaged. Symptoms include constant clicking noises, dead drive and burnt smell. The compatible circuit board will be used to access the drive. However, it requires complex procedures as each brand of drives has its own memory programmed into the circuit. Some models have their own memory attached into the circuit and not replaceable.
Firmware Damage
This occurs when the firmware platters of the drive becomes faulty. The firmware is crucial for initialization of the drive. A symptom of such damage is felt when the drive spins when plugged but inaccessible. The data recovery for this kind requires specialized hardware from ACE Laboratories with extensive experience and knowledge to repair the firmware.
Physical Damage
This occurs when the drive is prevented from starting up. Damages may vary from motor failure, head failure, spindle, actuator or any component within the drive. A full head stack failure is usually associated with constant clicks. When this happens, never attempt to access it as data within the drive may be lost irrecoverably if handled poorly. Our clean room class 100 is available to handle problems such as head failures. Only expert personnel are able to handle such a problem as it takes years of experience to master. Buzzing sounds or unspinning drives are usually the symptoms of motor failure. When this happens, a special technique is required to solve this using a compatible donor drive. Fortunately, we do possess a great range of stock and resources in resolution of issues like this.

Do note however that multiple disk drives (RAID) and Network Attached Storage (NAS) differ and require a specific quote.
